SQL Social No 22 – 7 May 2014

Posted on Updated on

We hope you all had the chance to get along to the recent SQL Saturday event and enjoyed a great day of free learning and networking with other SQL heads.

For those of you who were at the last SQL Social event, you would have heard us mention that we wanted to use SQL Social’s lightning talk style presentations as a development environment for new speakers or those just wanting to build-up to a full-blown User Group or Conference session.   Well, this month we will have a new speaker on the block doing just that.    Remember, as a reward we have 1 month Pluralsight subscriptions to give away to the presenter.

This Month’s Speaker

Lucas Ferguson

Lucas is an Analyst Programmer with the global property management organisation, Knight Frank. He has 8 years of experience in the SQL Server stack, mostly with T-SQL and Reporting Services with a smattering of SSIS and SSAS.

Lucas will be presenting on how Knight Frank made use of SQL Server Service Broker to keep two databases with very different data structures in sync.

As usual, food and drinks are provided courtesy of our sponsors.

Registrations are open, so please use the link below to let us know that you will be attending

Yes, SQL Server Social No 7 is on the horizon.

What’s more, we have a new helper – Vivek Pradhan has volunteered to assist with the organisation of the SQL Server Social starting with the next one on Wednesday, 6th June.    We’ve asked Vivek to organise some events on the night (which might involve the free pool tables), so hopefully we can add something more to your evening.  Watch this blog for more details.

Once again we are going to the The Bull & Bear Tavern, 347 Flinders Lane, Melbourne.

Please click here to register for the event.

It’s great to have another sponsor on board to make sure that you keep getting some food and drinks at the event.

Just in case you missed the bit at the bottom of the Avanade announcement, we do have another event this week.

On Wednesday, May 2nd at 6p.m., we are once again going to The Bull & Bear Tavern on 347 Flinders Lane, Melbourne.

Please remember to click here to register for the next event as we base our food and drink based on the number of people registered.

SQL Server Social 2012

Posted on Updated on

Happy New Year everyone!!

2012 is here and it promises to be a big year for the SQL Server community – yes, that’s right, SQL Server Social is back and ready for its first full year of events.

Our normal slot for this month unfortunately clashes with Australia Day so we have decided to push it back by 1 week and it will now be held on Wednesday, 1st February.   I think we’re still going to count this as a January event so keep an eye out for further announcements.

This month we are also trialling a new venue, the Bull and Bear at 347 Flinders Lane, Melbourne.   The downstairs Tavern Bar is ours for the evening and is equipped with 2 pool tables (which will be on free-play for most of the evening), a pinball machine, darts and a guest appearance of a Wii console!

We’ll be there from around 5:30pm right through until 10pm (or later if you feel like it).

As usual the generous sponsorship of BizData and LobsterPot will be providing for some food and drinks specials.

Look out for the invitation via Eventbrite hitting your in-boxes in the next couple of days and we’ll see you there.
